Sonny and Bev's BDay Party - 2011

We celebrated Sonny and Bev's birthdays together in August......Sonny turned 76 this year....Ernie and I went up early to set the tables up and get ready....Sonny wanted to know what we were doing...we told him what we had planned - to come on outside....he said - "I don't think I'm coming out"...so we went on out...after everyone got there I told Jeremy to try to get him to come out....well it wasn't long and Sonny followed Jeremy out the door! Jeremy wouldn't tell us what he said to get him to come out :-) The boys have a way of getting Sonny to do things that the rest of us don't have!! The weather was prefect and everyone enjoyed themselves....We had sausage bread, homemade ice cream, peaches and Sonny's favorite - german chocolate cake.

Josh had his senior pictures taken on August 20th by the talented Sandy Clarke! She did a SUPER JOB with Josh....I had been fretting about what to wear and what locations and if he wasn't in any sports what were we going to for special pics??? Well this mom needs to quit fretting....we started downtown Washington at a church and then proceeded to some back alleys and other neat places....then went back to Montgomery for a few shots and then we headed out to Sonny and Ruth's place....we took pics by the old van.....the old house....with his car by the red shed....it is so neat to take pictures there because the boys grew up exploring Sonny's farm! We did Jordan's senior pics up there also. Then we headed down to Kemp Inc. to take pics with the heavy equipment....Josh has been working for Grandpa the last 2 summers and loves it....it makes his grandpa smile also when he talks about Josh taking an interest in the business....Josh wasn't too interested about the locations and clothing choices till we got out to Sonny's and to Kemp Inc....but when we got the bill cap and casual clothes out...then he was right at home and knew what he wanted with the gun, car and heavy equipment photos! That's MY Josh!!! These are just a few of the good ones Sandy captured of him.....

2011 CORN...CORN...CORN

What can I say.....always glad when corn day is done :-). Karen Lynn plants 20-some rolls down by her turkey barns and then we try to help keep the patch clean, but life happens and with everyones best intentions the weeds take over :-(. But when the time comes to get the corn in we always have a good crop. We gather up as many of the guys we can to help us get it in the night before and start early the next morning, Janice is always kind enough to let us trash her place for the day, she has the perfect set up!!! The last 2 years we have borrowed a corn-washer-brusher machine that works wonders and cuts many hrs off our day. Grandma has one ordered for the Kemp family to use next year! Its a long but fun day and the kids have a ball.....We ended this year with 164 qts of corn....

2011 Watermelon Fest 5K

This summer I had to run Jeremy to school 5 days aweek at 7am for X Country practice.....with gas prices being sky high I didn't want to make extra trips - so I decided that I would use that time to exercise myself. Well another mom was doing the same thing and wanted to know if I wanted to do the "From The Couch to a 5k" schedule with her....well I was a little hesitant - but gave it a try.....starting out running 30 seconds at a time...which totally winded me!! and working ourselves up from there...just have to say that I surprised myself at how fast this 43 yr old body adjusted, on Monday's we would jump up to a longer period of time and at first I was worried I wouldn't be able to do it ...so I would get up Sunday mornings and go out and give it a try! Well, we started the first week of June and on Aug. 6th we did the 5k at the Watermelon Festival without walking! It took us 36 mins...BUT we did it!

Jordan's 20th BDay

My firstborn turned 20 on July 16th.......hard to believe.....I was kinda depressed that week thinking that 20 years had come and gone so quickly....he is no longer a teenager.....his childhood is over and he will be graduating from college come spring and entering the real world.....it's hard not to think that if I could go back and do it again...what would I do different? But I know Ernie and I did the best we knew how at the time and if we did it again we would make mistakes again :-) We are very proud of Jordan and the man he has become.....he's doing a great job being a full time college student and holding down a part time job on the side....WE LOVE YOU....JORDAN DEVON GRABER!!!!

2011 Cardinal Game / Joyce's

In July we went to a Cardinal's game in Cincinnati and then went on to Joyce's house for the weekend.....

The view from our seats...it was up higher, but I think this is the best seats we have had so far....the weather couldn't have been any nicer..was a great night for a ballgame...I think I have set though too many afternoon games in the sun!!Lol!

I helped Lisa with the 4th grade class at VBS this summer.....This year they gave each class an older couple or handicap person from our church to do something special for the week of bibleschool...our class had Sonny and Ruth...We baked brownies......

At Wood Memorial he took 3rd place in the 100 meter,
2nd place 200 meter....
At South Knox he took 1st place in both the 100 and 200 meter....

2010 Kemp Christmas

We had our Kemp Christmas on New Year's day, it seemed we couldn't find a date before that - that would suit everyone.....we got there about 4:30 and opened presents and then had deep fried turkey, mashed potatoes, noodles, dressing, corn, egg and lettuce salad and desserts.....as always everything was delicious!

2010 Christmas

On Christmas Morning I got up about 7:30 and made breakfast thinking the boys would be up soon....well I forgot that we had teenagers! Ernie and I had to go wake them about 9:30 so we had time to do our Christmas before we headed to the Miller dinner. We had a good time as a family...my heart felt like it could burst with love for my guys -I love it when we can all be together - I know that sounds silly when we all live in the same house - but it seems that life has a way of rushing everyone in different directions all the time. I am so thankful for this family that God has blessed me with.......

I think we may have had a redneck tree this year with 4 wheeler tires under/beside the tree!! Josh is so hard to know what to buy for...when I asked him for ideas - he said all he wanted was 4 wheeler tires! So that was what he got!!

Blazer vs Deer

Jordan called home one night when he was on his way home from VU and wondered where his dad was at.....he had hit a deer coming into Montgomery and it did some damage to his Blazer. There were six deer that crossed the highway and he hit one, I'm so thankful that he was not hurt...it could have caused a pretty big pile up if there had been other traffic at that time.

It somehow hit the front and then spun around and put a dent in the driver's door.....

It did damage to the bumper and the grill.....

and pushed the bumper back against the tire.....
this was not the way he had hoped to get a deer this season!

For Thanksgiving this year the Miller's were almost all together....Barb, Sheldon and Jackie were the only ones that couldn't make it. Sue and her family was here from Florida, Joyce and her family were here from Ohio and Tennessee and Vicki and her family was her from Florida also. We had Thanksgiving at the Pleasant View Gym.

We celebrated Damon's 19th birthday when we had our Thanksgiving dinner...Janice got him a cake and we all went together and got him a guitar and amp for his gift....We love you Damon!!!!

Josh and Grandpa Kemp went over to the river in Shoals to check the nets....this is what they found! These are some monster catfish!

Josh and Ernie spent quite awhile butchering catfish.....

We took some to Sonny's and Josh fried some for his friends and still have some in the freezer!

2010 Back to School

I know I say it all the time, but time just seems to fly.....Jordan started his 1st year of college this fall also (didn't catch him to get a pic)....just don't seem possible.....as time keeps flying by - the more I realize just how short of a time I have with the boys at home with me and it makes me want to sit down and cry :-(
Dear Lord.....Thank you for these boys you put in my care....give me the wisdom I need to be the mom you plan for me to be. Amen

Jeremy's 2010 X-Country Season

Aug. 31 - NE Dubois - Jeremy was didn't get to compete in his first meet because of being sick with strep throat....
Sept. 4 - Southern Gibson - Jeremy placed 7th out of 84 runners - team won 1st place out of 12 teams

Sept. 11 - Brown County Invit. - Jeremy placed 12th out of 188 runners with a time of 11:13 - team got 4th place out of 21 teams

Sept. 18 - South Knox - Jeremy place 13th with a time of 11:01 - team finished 3rd out of 22 teams

Oct. 2 - State Meet - Jeremy earned all state honors placing 19th out of 233 runners with a PR time of 10:44 - the team finished 7th out of 27 teams

Oct. 7 - Blue Chip Conference at Gasthof - Jeremy placed 23rd after falling down in the first part of the race - team placed 2nd out of 7 teams

Oct 9 - Vincennes Inv. - Jeremy placed 19th with a time of 11:07 - team finished 3rd out of 14 teams

Coach Lester asked Jordan to be the head coach for the babe ruth team, he enjoyed doing it but it made things crazy busy for him - he would go to work during the day on the carpenter crew and then would barely make it back in time for the games.

Everyone came to Sonny's to watch some fireworks that Jeremy and Ruth picked out...have to say that they were pretty impressive!!

We even had sparklers for the little ones.....Kyann looks so precious as she intently watches!!

Kendrick decided to just take a seat after we told the kids many times they had to stay back!!

On the menu for the night was pigs-in-a-blanket....brownies....cheese dip and chips.....Oreo cookies and chocolate ice cream....

This Little Miss and her mom and nana came to visit everyone in Indiana for a couple days.....and they stayed at our house!!! We totally enjoyed their visit!!!

We went to Karen's to swim one day...the water was a little cold - but I think everyone enjoyed it....

Their time here went too fast.....we went to Knepp's Thursday for supper, Friday Ruth and Joyce went to visit Paul in the hospital and then we went to Jim and Lil's for supper and Mom made breakfast for everyone on Saturday morning before they headed back. Jackie was here also - but we didn't get to see her and Paul's family much because Paul was in the hospital due to heart problems.

Judy and I had some extra eggs.....and she was on vacation....so we made noodles. We don't do it very often...it's kinda fun/enjoyable and they are so good! As I was cleaning the noodle maker - I noticed that it had the initials KM on it....this noodle maker belonged to my Grandma Miller - Katie Miller. Wonder how many noodles it has made? It was always a fun day to go to grandmas and make noodles with the other aunts and cousins.......
